Dans la légende bretonne, Ys est la cité Armoricaine que le roi Gradlon avait fait ériger à la beauté de sa fille Dahut. Dans sa luxure, Dahut laisse un étranger prendre possession des clés de la digue. L'étranger ouvre le déluge sur la décadente et magnifique cité d'Ys. Après s'être échappée en compagnie du Roi, chevauchants Morvarc'h (« le cheval de mer »), Dahut est jetée dans les eaux par son père, et continue de hanter la baie de Douarnenez et les côtes du Trégor sous la forme d’une sirène.

Ys est l'histoire d'une cité engloutie.
